Catherine Davison

Biography

Drawing and painting directly from source underpins my practice. I am attracted to looking at complex spaces where different forms interrelate in landscape, focusing on the parks and hills near my home in South Edinburgh. I enjoy the challenge of deconstructing what is happening in front of me and through reconstruction make visual sense of the changing relationships. Abbreviation is central to my image making; mapping the land with a vocabulary of idiosyncratic lines and patchworks of coloured shapes as I search for ways to transform my perceptions of space into new forms of wondrous reality.
