Ursula Pretsch
"I print in order to help preserve and share traditional printmaking skills and heritage for future generations. My practice is driven by an instilled, personal need for the sensory and tactile experience of working with textured papers, heavy presses, the glistening ink when a print is first revealed, the smell of ink in the air, the buzz of being in a workshop and part of its community. "
BIOGRAPHY
Ursula Pretsch is an Edinburgh-based artist and maker who works predominantly in printmaking. Her motives reflect impressions from personal journeys to places near and far and she draws inspiration from her private photographic archive of national and international travel photographs. She transforms internalised experiences into atmospheric images, ultimately realised as fine art prints.
The scenes may be worked up in photography or as contemporary drawings, depicting nature, landscape and architecture and encapsulating the essence of the place or situation witnessed. Ursula operates across a range of printmaking techniques and combinations thereof. She is equally fascinated by the process of deciding which technique to apply and with the physical production itself.
