Adrian Wiszniewski

BIOGRAPHY

Adrian Wiszniewski (RSA, HonFRIAS, HRSW) is an artist and printmaker who was born in Glasgow in 1958 and trained at Glasgow School of Art. He gained notoriety 1980s Scottish visual art renaissance and was a leading figure in the revival of figurative painting in a group known as the New Glasgow Boys.

Wiszniewski's work places emphasis on the artists drawing practice. His figures are awkward, timeless, and sometimes melancholy. His compositions are rich with symbolic, political and philosophical depths. 

Wiszniewski has been politically active throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, campaigning for support for artists.

His exhibitions include THE VIGOROUS IMAGINATION 30 years on: then & now, 2017, The Fine Art Society in Edinburgh and Roger Billcliffe Gallery, Glasgow. His images of Robert Burns were first showcased in the solo exhibition The Man Who Loved Women, 2012, Burns Birthplace Museum, Ayrshire, and later revisited in major exhibition Burns Unbroke, 2018, Summerhall, Edinburgh. 

His works are in many international collections including the Gallery of Modern Art, and Metropolitan Museum, New York; Setagaya Museum, Tokyo; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; and Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Wiszniewski has had solo exhibitions in London, Sydney, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ghent and Tokyo.
