SwimWalk

Date: 16 June 2018

Time: 12:45pm - 2:30pm

Price: Free

SwimWalk is an art walk. This participatory performance piece links Union Street, the current home of Edinburgh Printmakers, with Union Canal, the organisation's future home. Leaving from the gallery, a converted wash-house at the top of Leith walk, the SwimWalk will lead participants through the city, culminating in a spectacular finish at the Edinburgh Canalside Festival.

SwimWalk is a mystery walk across town in which participants don specially-printed Ocean Blue swimming hats. SwimWalk takes a route that looks at historical elements of the water in Edinburgh although you won't get wet!

Each participant will be asked to wear a SwimWalk cap which they can keep at the end of the performance.

SwimWalk was conceived by Imi Maufe, a Norwegian based British artist, who established The Blue Hat Swim Club in 2016 during a residency at Hospitalfield, Arbroath. The event is part of Imi Maufe's Translating Travels exhibition at Edinburgh Printmakers, which documents journeys by bike, boat, bus, on foot, and on skis, through the use of printed matter and artists' books.

The exhibition runs from 6th April – 21st July 2018. Edinburgh Printmakers hope that everyone can enjoy the surrounding events.

Swimwalk will begin at 12:45pm sharp from Edinburgh Printmakers at 23 Union Street, so be sure to arrive on time! It will then continue until around 2:30pm, where the Swimwalk will finish at the Canalside Festival. Transport will not be provided back to 23 Union Street.

Participating in SwimWalk involves crossing the centre of Edinburgh on foot and performing swimming-inspired gestural arm movements as you traverse the city. If you would like to discuss any access needs, please contact Judith Liddle on events@edinburghprintmakers.co.uk or 0131 557 2479.
