Edinburgh Printmakers is proud to launch a new print by artist Gillian Mather, 'Love'.

Mather created the print at Edinburgh Printmakers in 2023, after being awarded the EP publishing award at the RSA Annual Exhibition in 2022. This opportunity enabled her to work on a limited edition working closely with our Studio Technician James Harrison who produced this fine art print edition.

Utilising fluorescent inks and a finish of gloss varnish ink this exquisitely crafted screenprint captures the surface and feel of the gestural mark-making specific to Gillian’s paintings.

This print edition expresses the emotion of love between two people. To achieve this, Gillian incorporated elements of abstraction within a basic figurative form, using simple colours and brushstrokes. To emphasise the depth of emotion the artist avoided minute details that could be distracting. Her approach is to experiment with new forms of figurative painting to try to convey a profound artistic pleasure to the viewer and to make their heart sing.

"I very much enjoyed meeting Alastair and James and I was extremely impressed with their skill in obtaining a precise reproduction of my painting, down to the most detailed brushstrokes. I thank them sincerely for taking such interest in my work." - Gillian

  • All of Gillian's Love series paintings use a matte pink colour as background and a glossy pink paint to elevate the image and create texture and movement with light. EP screen print technician, James realised that by mixing the gloss varnish with the darker pink ink he could achieve her characteristic glossiness and texture through screen printing.

The fine art print Love was a painstaking effort by James in making sure all six layers were printed in perfect precision as a unique rectangle.

The print is available from the EP shop and online for a special launch price throughout the month of August. EP partners with Own Art allowing costumers to split the cost of a work of art in 10 monthly installments with 0% finance.
