Edinburgh Printmakers was delighted to partner with interior design company Studio Lizonne to dress the new Grove House Hotel on Grove Street, only a few minutes’ walk away from Castle Mills.
Grove House Hotel gave Studio Lizonne a brief to ensure the new hotel remained connected to the community. Melissa Baker, the studio’s director, approached Edinburgh Printmakers to seek out new artwork for the bedrooms and public spaces in the hotel.
In addition to curating a selection of prints from the Sales Archive for Studio Lizonne to consider, Edinburgh Printmakers showed the team works created and recently consigned to the shop by our Studio Members. So inspired by these prints, Studio Lizonne asked if more could be made! In collaboration with Studio Lizonne, Edinburgh Printmakers commissioned 5 artists to produce 142 new prints for the hotel, to ensure all 46 bedrooms showcased a diverse range of locally made fine art prints.
Artists commissioned to produce new work through this project include Sheila Chapman, Alister Hayes, Lindsay Hutchison, Polly Rose Morris, and Carla Smith.
In addition to commissioned artists, work was also purchased by Pio Abad, Shelagh Atkinson, Katy Dove, Anupa Gardner, Silke Heuer, Louise Hopkins, Aleksandra Kargul, Kim Minuti, Wendy McMurdo, Cat Outram, and Rowan Paton.
Melissa had the following to day about the experience: “Special thanks go to all of the artists (with some going to extra lengths to produce the quantities required within the time frame), to Alice Griffith from Edinburgh Printmakers for her patience and expertise in procuring the works, to Jamie McAteer and his team at Detail Framing for framing and hanging the works so efficiently and beautifully, and to the hotel owners for embracing the concept and investing in this unique collection.”
It was a pleasure to work with Studio Lizonne in providing all the artwork displayed throughout the hotel, and it’s fantastic to see so many artists working in the studio represented in a venue so close to Edinburgh Printmakers.
