BIOGRAPHY
Curious about the potential of visual narratives, Kim Minuti trained in screen-printed textiles and surface pattern design. Working as a freelance textile designer in London before time in arts education, she has come full circle and is now based in Edinburgh, becoming a member of the vibrant printmaking community at Edinburgh Printmakers, as well as working from her home studio.
Her practice is organic and instinctive, with ideas explored and expanded through the physicality of the printmaking processes and their interplay with each other. Chance becomes a vital element and outcomes may be poetic as well as playful. She has previously exhibited and demonstrated at The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and annual Member shows at Edinburgh Printmaker's. In 2024 she exhibited in a joint show at Upright Gallery and holds membership with Visual Arts Scotland and the Imprint Artist Community.
Drawn to the overlooked details that emerge in the crossover spaces between urban and natural environments, Minuti invites us to pause and take note of the small things in the places that surround and shape us. Using an organic approach to printmaking, each piece evolves through the instinctive process of transfer to paper, creating a quiet narrative that explores how these two worlds coexist and collide.
Her practice often embraces abstraction, juxtaposing collected natural elements with intuitive, experimental compositions that welcome chance and variation. Kim chooses not to produce editions, allowing the work to play out and remain as unique, one-off pieces. The subtle shifts and imperfections within each print reflect the constancy of time and perpetual change.
In recent works, she has layered saturated and translucent screen-printed forms to investigate the weight and shifting mood of colour, reflecting the interplay between built and natural spaces. Found and displaced materials are exposed directly to the screen, creating a tension between suggestions of three-dimensional form and blocks of colour.
At the heart of Kim’s practice lies a connection to the environment and our intrinsic relationship with nature. She sees interior spaces as places of quiet celebration, where this shared connection can be felt, contemplated, and reflected.
