New Online Shop and Viewing Room

Since the doors of Castle Mills closed to the public in 2020, our sales and archive team have taken the opportunity to catalogue and digitise our extensive archive of prints – the largest contemporary print archive in Scotland. Many of these prints are now available to view and buy on our brand-new online shop, and we’ll continue to add more in the coming weeks and months.

Each print has been meticulously scanned to ensure all images are available in high-resolution with accurate colours to aid the buying process. With hundreds of prints available to purchase by artists ranging from John Byrne to Rachel Maclean, visitors can also ‘View on a Wall’ to see the print at scale in a variety of domestic settings. Prices range from £95 upwards.

To mark the launch of the new resource a special digital exhibition called Spotlight runs from 30 April until the 27 June 2021. The exhibition focuses on the breadth and diversity of Edinburgh Printmakers’ collaborations and commissions over a 50 year period, including both one-off commissions and works by prolific printmakers. Highlights include commissioned work by Alasdair Gray from The Writing on Your Wall; Kirsty Whiten’s Mother lithographs from her exhibition Breeder Badlands; Kate Downie’s Long Light from the Late Train and the work of celebrated painter and ‘Scottish realist’ Sandy Moffat.

Speaking at the launch of Edinburgh Printmakers webshop Project Manager Sam Tovey said:

“It has been such a huge privilege to work on cataloging this extensive archive. Seeing some of these works for the first time in decades has been incredibly rewarding and we are delighted to now make the editions available to the public to buy. Throughout the pandemic it felt like we got to spend time with these artists through their artworks, the stories of their collaborations with the Edinburgh Printmakers studio team and how each print tells a unique story of the development of each artist and how they work. The job of cataloguing continues so we will keep adding more prints to the webshop and hosting new digital exhibitions like Spotlight. We hope those visiting our website enjoy seeing these works as much as we have enjoyed the process of sharing them.”
