Print Day in May is an annual, world-wide celebration of printmaking taking place on the first Saturday in May. On this day printmakers all over the world will print together. As the day unfolds around the globe, participants in over 80 countries join in this powerful celebration of creativity.
To celebrate this year's event, Edinburgh Printmakers is organising several activities to share the love and practice of printmaking!

'fragile beauty' Talk and etching demo by Cat Outram
12PM - 1PM - GALLERY 1 and STUDIO
Hear from one of our longest-standing Studio Members, artist Cat Outram, about her print Fragile Beauty. The print is currently on display in our exhibition Story and produced for the From Paper to Gold Folio celebrating EP's 50th Anniversary in 2017.
Cat will walk us through the inspiration behind the print and how the prospect of the new studio in Castle Mills, Fountainbridge connected her to the urban landscape. After a short talk in the Gallery space, we will move up to the Studio for an etching demonstration, a great opportunity to learn more and explore this fascinating and historical medium.
PRINT YOUR OWN POSTEr workshop

Historically, Pritmaking has been used as a medium to spread information. Its accessibility, reproducibility, low cost and potential for graphic expressiveness have made it the ideal way to share ideas from political views and social justice fights to book launches, club nights, baby sitting services and lost pets! Especially in pre-social media world, posters have long been shouting slogans and mottos from streets' walls, lightposts, billboards and buses.
Follow in centuries of paper-based comunication tradition and join us to produce your own personal poster, using letterpress and relief printing.
Participants will be able to print several copies of their own posters to take home and share with family and friends (or even strangers!). We will also use one copy to stitch all our posters together and produce one large collaborative poster which we will print together in the main studio using our Mega Press, and display in our courtyard for the duration of the month of May.
