Join us on Saturday 1st July at 2pm for an artist talk with visual artist and researcher Sonia Mehra Chawla.
Based in New Delhi, India, Sonia Mehra Chawla has an interdisciplinary practice as an artist, photographer and researcher. She works at the intersection of art, science and technology, and her artistic practice explores notions of ecology, sustainability and conservation through a multispecies lens.
In this talk Sonia will be reflecting on her journey between Scotland and India, her previous solo exhibition at Edinburgh Printmakers in partnership with Marine Scotland and ASCUS Art & Science, and discussing her role as a participating artist in Edinburgh Printmakers' Future Flow project in collaboration with British Council and the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India.
This talk will be held in our Boardroom and will be a hybrid event. Tickets are £10/£8 concession.
Sonia Mehra Chawla is an awardee of the International Art+Science programme and residency instituted by Khoj International Artists Association and Wellcome Trust UK/ DBT Alliance, India. Chawla has exhibited widely including curated exhibitions at the CSMVS Museum, Mumbai, ZKM | Museum & Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Yinchuan Biennale 2016, Tate Modern, London, Radialsystem, Berlin, Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA, China, Albertina Modern, Vienna, Edinburgh Printmakers, National Institute of Design-NID, Ahmedabad, Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, ifa-galerie Stuttgart, British Council, Delhi, Goethe-Institut, Mumbai, Colombo, and Kolkata, Edinburgh Science Festival, ESSL Museum, Austria, Today Art Museum, Beijing, Edinburgh Art Festival and Indian Museum, Kolkata.
Sonia is visiting Edinburgh on a British Council and Charles Wallace India Trust Fellowship for visual arts, 2023. She is exploring Scotland and India’s industrial past with a focus on botanical histories and politics.
