Decades Unwrapped: 1980's: Sam Ainsley RSA & Amanda Catto

10 Nov 2026
Overview
Join us for this new series of talks building on Edinburgh Printmakers' successful 'Unwrapped' series exploring works and stories from the Permanent Collection.

Tuesday 10th November | 6:30pm | In-person or Online

This talk will feature a stimulating discussion between artist Sam Ainsley RSA and Amanda Catto about Ainsley's work with Edinburgh Printmakers in the 1980s. In 1986 Ainsley published the editions 'Reaping the Whirlwind' and 'Passion, Imagination, Conscience' with Edinburgh Printmakers, which are among the earliest EP Editions by women. Ainsley and Catto will discuss how these editions came to be made, what inspired them, the atmosphere of EP in the 1980s, and the increase of diversity in the studio during this period.

Leading up to the celebration of our 60th year in 2027, Edinburgh Printmakers is hosting a series of events exploring its early decades. Hear stories of the Edinburgh arts scene in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s from local icons Richard Demarco, Sandy Moffat, Ken Duffy, and Sam Ainsley. Discover how the culture of Edinburgh itself laid the foundations for Edinburgh Printmakers to become the strong and unique community arts hub it is today.

If you feel you need additional support or concession prices to attend this event, either in-person or online, please get in touch via info@edinburghprintmakers.co.uk.
