Brownen Sleigh worked with Studio Director Alastair Clark to produce two stone lithographs in 2013 and from the experience went on to employ lithography more regularly in her work. This print is characteristic of her work, depicting an ambiguous urban architectural space.

Biography

Bronwen Sleigh lives and works in Glasgow. She studied at Glasgow School of Art and The Royal College of Art.

Bronwen Sleigh was etching technician and collaborating printer with Edinburgh Printmakers, and left to focus on her practice and calling as an artist. She exhibited at Edinburgh Printmakers in Bronwen Sleigh 2010, Construct 2013,  and Abstraction from Architecture 2015, which she also curated.

Sleigh is a multi-disciplinary artist who takes inspiration from industrial architecture. She depicts unused and forgotten urban spaces, and environments at the edge of the city. Influenced by modernist architecture of the twentieth century, she suggests new ways of looking at the world. She presents ordinary environments in unfamiliar ways.

Sleigh works in drawing, printmaking, collage, painting and sculpture. The artist combines detailed fragments of different buildings by colliding perspectives and viewpoints. Sleigh explores how how three-dimensional spaces can be represented on two-dimensional surfaces. Ambiguous forms punctuate compositions of intertwined staircases, windows, roofs and electrical pylons. She references the constant development and demolition of the urban landscape.

The artist has exhibited in Chez Arthur et Janine, Arles, France; Cydonia Gallery, Texas, USA; Calgary University, Canada; Trongate 103, Glasgow; The Royal Academy of Arts, London; and Engramme, Quebec, Canada. She has attended several artists residencies including at The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada and at Cove Park, Scotland. She was Print Fellow at The Royal Academy Schools.
