'This Moment Brief' was printed from a still image taken from her video art, 'Edward Thomas', where she was working with the poetry of Edward Thomas. The title of the print takes a phrase from the beginning of the third verse of 'The Bridge':

No traveller has rest more blest
Than this moment brief between
Two lives...

Her view is that everything on the internet is influenced by people's creativity, and so is neither totally 'digital' nor opposed to a previous 'analogue'. Rather, technologies have always been mixed and used to express ideas in different ways. She has had to reinterpret and translate the textures and colour variations, as video and print create different aesthetics.

Her video art is produced out of the virtual world of Second Life. The process of photopolymer etching transfers a digital image from the video art onto acetate, which is then used to make an etching plate. Each editioned print is the result of individual hand-inking.

Biography

Tess Baxter is a printmaker and video artist, interested in how the human bridges across digital and mechanical images, between light on-screen and ink on paper.

She has an MA distinction in Gender Sexuality and Culture from Manchester University, and has recently submitted a PhD in Contemporary Art at Lancaster University. As practice based research, her video art and printmaking was an important element of the PhD. During 2019 and 2020, her video art was selected for events in Denver, Berlin and Montreal.
