“Looking Through” is an A.P. from a copper plate on which I’ve used different inking techniques and different applications of printed and unprinted tissue. My aim is to convey, the ever changing colours and light of the west coast, and the mystery evoked by this ages old landscape. In this version I have used unprinted white tissue, to create the impression of a vail separating, or the scene viewed between parting curtains. Etched lines and and swirling aquatint marks, cover the plate, inked up al a poupee, to show the sea and sky shift in the light, of this mysterious ancient landscape.
I am based on the West Coast of Scotland, which is my primary inspiration. My marks and jottings, made in my sketchbook are the basis of the etchings I make at EP. I love the alchemy of printmaking and the suspense as the paper is lifted from the plate to reveale the print.
This particular copper plate, has gone through many transformations, I have used different techniques in different combinations, all the time striving to create that feeling of a special place, of a moment in time, a mysterious atmosphere. There are two more versions of “Looking Through” available.
