Universe is a lasercut print produced especially to accompany the exhibition at Edinburgh Printmakers and was developed from Mehra Chawla's Vital To Life: Drifters and Wanderers series. These detailed and meticulously produced laser cuts and engravings explore the hidden, mysterious and wondrous world of microorganisms (diatoms) in the world’s oceans and water bodies. The work makes the invisible visible, as we marvel at the exquisite beauty and vitality of their siliceous structures, frustules (cell walls) and formations.
