Over the lockdown period, I became like many others, thankful for and inspired by nature. Living in a flat in the middle of Edinburgh the easiest way to bring nature into my environment has been to buy flowers. Another option when possible was to go walking up in the Pentlands, Blackford Hill and Arthur's Seat. Here I gathered the various grasses I noticed along the way. I had been exploring collographs in relation to my early cultural experiences and the influence of germanic and east european folk art. But most recently I developed a series of mono prints that are rooted in the scottish landscape. For me these suggested 'Freedom.'

The use of collograph allows me to add texture and depth to the image. Literally the individual templates make indentations in the paper and give the overall impression of a raw slightly sculptural quality and emphasising a hands-on craftsmanship.

The unique nature of this print has been developed within of the technique of collography. Collographs are crafted from various thin materials and built up to complete whole image templates. They are sometimes used to form a significant part of a print. for e.g collograph and silkscreen.
The way I have approached this particular print has been to assemble and design the print from various templates to print single prints. They become Monoprint Collographs and each is unique in itself. There are no editions of this print. However, there are another 5 in this size of 20cms circles and another set of 30 cms circles.
