The image in this print was developed from a sketch I did in Attadale Gardens, which is near my home. I redrew it in Sumi-e ink on plastic film from which I made a photopolymer plate at Edinburgh Printmakers. It is printed on white Hahnemuhle paper on my home-studio printing press in Lochcarron, Wester Ross.
As well as photopolymer printmaking, I make etchings, aquatints, linocuts and monotypes. I also draw and paint. My main focus is landscape, such as hillscapes and seascapes - and I like to think about how to portray the essence of a place.
Gardens are a new subject for me this year, and I have created a few paintings on this subject. This is the first print I've made of a garden scene (based on Attadale's Japanese Garden) and I hope to develop this theme further.
