Biography

Jane Raven uses the printmaking process called Toyobo (or photopolymer gravure). This is a non-toxic photopolymer technique that exposes photographic images onto a plate with a photosensitive layer. This plate is then hardened on the exposure unit, and can then be inked up and printed on the press - much like an etching plate.

All the prints that Jane makes are taken from photographs taken by her over the last 2 years. During the printing process she sometimes uses Chine Colle - where an image is printed onto a very light, delicate paper that is then adhered to the stronger supporting paper - the effect is similar to that when using collage.
