Rona MacLean
Image Size: 18x48.5cm
This print is one in a series made of trees, a favourite subject of mine. It is made up of a screen printed element on the right hand side plus an embossing of birch trees on the left. I love birch trees for their glorious bark and form. I often include blind emboss in my work. The embossing was done first on a copper plate. To get a deep emboss it had to be bitten for many hours. Once the plate had gone through the press the paper was dried under boards for a week. Finally, the screen printed element was added.
Biography
I grew up on Loch Lomond side and am now based in Edinburgh and Speyside
I have been a member of Edinburgh Printmakers for more than fifteen years. I mainly produce screen prints, etchings, and mezzotints.
My subject matter is varied but tends to feature elements of the natural world in all its forms. I have an enduring love of trees. Their majestic silhouettes, particularly in winter, are very compelling and a gift to a printmaker.
I exhibit regularly in and around Edinburgh. My work has been shown in several open exhibitions including the Royal Scottish Academy, Society of Scottish Artists, and the Paisley Art Institute.
I share a studio at Beaverhall Studios, Edinburgh and am a member of The Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.
