Philip Redfern
I am a musician by training and vocation, active as a conductor, viol player and organist. Joining the EPM community over 20 years ago, I have worked primarily in relief and screen printing experimenting more recently with Toyobo plates, having been inspired by courses with Leena Namaari and Gill Murray.
My musical background where form, texture, harmony and dissonance along with repetition, variation and improvisation are key has had a major impact on my visual language. For me, colour and shape are the vital factors whether creating one of my large repertoire of Christmas and general cards or individual prints. In this way, printmaking both builds on my established perceptions and allows me to develop and enjoy new insights and responses to the world around me.
