I am a mixed media artist currently focused on screenprinting and acrylic painting. I am interested in the battle we have between routine and impulse – the comfort of control and organisation when so much around us cannot be stopped; the desire for novelty when each day looks the same as before. To succeed in life, the two must be in balance – but the measure of what is needed changes moment by moment, creating a lifelong journey to seek out both and run from either.
My practice reflects that challenge – there is no single answer, no single material or single technique. Using a mixture of drawing, painting and printmaking across mixed media to create bold, colourful, abstract works. It is a continuous experiment to combine organic and controlled shapes, fixed lines with fluid marks, and bold colours until something interesting appears.
Screenprinting is the perfect balance of routine and rhythm as you pull your prints, with the unpredictability and instinct of deciding for each work where to place the next layer. I don’t know what I will end up with until every layer is there. But it is a step-by-step process that allows for the beauty of chaos to arrive more comfortably.
