Hilary Joiner
Hilary a Scottish Artist based in Fife, is inspired by what she sees in the environments that surround her. After graduating in 1996 with a MA in Fine Art from The University of Edinburgh / College of Art she spent over 27 years in Communications and has recently gone back to her roots as a landscape painter.
Part of her role as a Creative Director in advertising and design has involved a close relationship with the printing process and so, it was inevitable that Hilary was curious to integrate this technique as an artist.
She uses screen-printing because it involves breaking down what you see then considering how to make marks that build back together into one. Her work is constructed using form and bands / fields of colour. Isolating and considering the elements which contribute to the whole piece has bridged the gap between observation and abstraction for Hilary.
She uses a method of mixing inks on the press, letting the background colours blend and change during the print, mirroring the atmosphere as it transforms as we observe it in real time.
After taking part in a workshop last September, she became a member of EP. Printmaking is now a key part of her practice.
