Biography
Abi Blyth is an arist and maker based in Midlothian. After nearly 30 years working globally as an engineer in the energy sector, Covid lockdown brought her an opportunity to return to Scotland for a serendipitous career change. Abi now works primarily in printmaking and ceramics - mediums that, analogous to engineering, underpin creativity with structured methods and processes. Drawn to bold palettes and freedom of expression, her work is inspired by a desire to reclaim vibrance and colour, to rekindle a connection to nature and to explore organic and experimental design processes. Unhurried moments immersed in the creative momentum of the print studio provide her a gratifying antidote to the decades spent in a time-pressured work environment focused only on function rather than aesthetics.
