Eleanor Buffam
BIOGRAPHY
Eleanor Buffam is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and musician. She explores themes of identity and connection, believing that art is vital in developing empathy and tolerance by investigating diverse viewpoints and creatively developing possibilities. In her visual art, she works mainly with paintings and cyanotypes on paper and various fabrics, with subjects ranging from sexual identity to close-ups of flowers in her garden. She lives in Leith, Edinburgh.
In 2019 she became ill with a debilitating chronic illness (ME/CFS), which shrunk her world, limiting what she can do, forcing her to slow down and explore less intensive ways of working. This led to a renewed interest in cyanotype printing, as it is a much less taxing process than the large paintings that she had been making previously.
She has ME/CFS and ADHD.
She has exhibited in the ING Discerning Eye, the Scottish Portrait Awards, Edinburgh Printmakers, and the Scottish National Gallery, among many others.
She is a member of ArtCan, Neuk Collective, Edinburgh Printmakers, and Visual Art Scotland.
