The Edinburgh Printmakers permanent art collection holds a wide range of prints created in our studio by members and invited artists since we opened our doors in 1967.

We also maintain an archive of posters, exhibition catalogues, and other printed ephemera related to our programmes and exhibitions.  When possible, we retain plates, blocks and sketches relating to the creation of our editions.

The permanent collection mirrors our rich history as the first open-access studio in the UK, and shines a light on our tradition of creating masterful prints with Scottish and international artists.

  • A number of notable Scottish painters have worked closely with technicians here to realize their imagery in print and expand their painting practice. These include Victoria Crowe, Callum Innes and Alison Watt. Other distinguished artists who have created publications with us include Elspeth Lamb, Rachel Maclean, Kate Downie, Moyna Flannigan, Calum Colvin, Eduardo Paolozzi, and John Byrne.

A longstanding relationship with the artist John Bellany is evident within our shelves. Bellany worked closely with EP etching technician Alfons Bytautas between the years of 1984 - 1987 resulting in over 70 prints and three folios.

  • We also have a collection of folios, which are collections of unbound prints. These have been created over the years to mark anniversaries, to showcase a particular print medium, or, in some cases, to house a series of works by a single artist. In 1984 John Bellany collaborated with poet Alan Boyd to publish the ‘Haven’ – a portfolio featuring Lithographs by Bellany and letter-pressed poems by Boyd. And our ‘From Paper to Gold’ 50th anniversary portfolio features works from many EP members, staff, and invited artists, acting as a time-capsule of the studio’s activity in the year 2017.
