Meet Fiona, our new Kids + Teens Print Club Producer

Our Kids + Teens Print Club for the Summer is booking fast. Fiona Maher will be running the Kids + Teens Print Club and inspiring Edinburgh children and teenagers. Here are a few words from Fiona.

"Imagine yourself in my shoes, being offered a job with the organisation that first sparked your interest in printmaking, bit of a dream come true. As a 17 year old, when the printmakers workshop was based in The Fruitmarket, I had the opportunity, through a schools programme, to take part in a week long printmaking course. I can still remember the impact that made on me, working in a professional environment and feeling like ‘a real artist’ for the first time.

All these years later, I hope that the Kids + Teens Print Club's programme will inspire a new generation of artist/printmakers.

The dedicated education space is well equipped and stocked with everything a curious printmaker could wish for. I’m very much looking forward to the adventure of welcoming those curious minds!

Print Club rules for the summer, come along, have some fun, be inspired and experience a bit of the magic I remember…"

Fiona’s love of printmaking started when she was a young girl watching her dad print small business cards and tickets on an a small Adana printing press. The application of ink to a printing plate, transferring to paper was magical then and remains so today.

Graduating from Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) in 1983, one of two students who were the first to complete their degree in printmaking and a further postgraduate in Community Education, she began to combine her own art practice with delivering workshops and classes in the informal education sector.

Most recently, she has designed and delivered 2 Communty Heritage printmaking projects – 1 in Haddington – ‘Print the Town Red’ as part of Haddington 700 and ‘Roll Up! Roll Up! For Gorebridge Heritage Week

Fiona has been teaching printmaking at The Poldrate for the past 3 years, covering a wide range of techniques., and will be spending this Summer in a new post as Print Club Producer with us.

Alongside her teaching, this year she is pursuing a self directed printmaking project ‘Out of print’ creating prints from found objects and encounters. You can follow her progress on her website
