Digital imaging and Photo Lithography

Full Price: £180 / £150 concession

Combine digital imaging with printmaking. Learn to prepare images in Adobe Photoshop and print out acetates for a printmaking process. Expose images onto light sensitive photo litho plates and print in transparent and opaque colours, exploring the subtle layering of colour lithography. Bring along photographs, a digital camera or drawings to scan and manipulate in the computer. See how the process of printmaking can extend and enrich your images.

More about the course

Some previous experience of computers essential, during this course we will be working with Apple Mac computers and Adobe Photoshop software. A basic working knowledge (or better) of Photoshop is expected. No previous experience of lithography required

The size used during the course is aprox 28 x 38cm. The course includes:

Some basics about working with Adobe Photoshop

Working with Layers in Photoshop

Working with tone and ways of creating separate tonal separations

Working with full colour, CMYK and RGB

Creating optimum separations and dot sizes for litho

An overview of different printers and printing acetates

Registration systems and placing registration marks

Plate making, exposing and developing

Paper preparation and placing registration marks

Setting up to print & printing a small edition

Clearing up after printing

Ink Mixing. Mixing transparent and opaque inks

Printing & overprinting, using blends

Cleaning up and storing plates

Working in the studio after the course & studio practice
