Screenprinting Summer School

Full Price: £370 per week / £310 concession

This four day summer school introduces the wide range of possibilities available with screenprinting.

Start off  exploring the wide variety of ways that images can be created for screenprinting, using photographic images on the photocopier or computer as well as hand-drawn techniques to create painterly washes and drawings.

Find out how to prepare and expose your images onto a light sensitive screen stencil and learn how to print and layer up your image in several colours onto paper.

This Summer School course runs from Monday-Thursday and comes with optional Free untutored workshop access on the Friday to complete any printing.

This Summer School course also comes with FREE associate membership of Edinburgh Printmakers until December 2019

More about the course

During the course, each participant will work on their own prints, creating 2 or 3 images in layers of colour on paper. The process is explored through hands-on practice where participants learn the practical, technical skills involved in making a screenprint.

Paper size (& maximum image size) on course is approx: 28 x 38 cms.

Course Topics:

  • Introduction and overview of the process
  • Looking at print examples and how the layers were constructed
  • Preparing your image: Making acetates on the photocopier:
  • Preparing your image: hand-drawn positives
  • Preparing your image, Working with Adobe Photoshop to create layers and seperations
  • Printing out acetates from the computer
  • Preparing the screen: degreasing & applying photo emulsion
  • Exposing acetates onto screen and developing
  • Ink Mixing: opaque inks to semi-translucent colours
  • Setting up to print, using the press & printing
  • Clearing up after printing
  • Working in the studio after the course & studio practice
