As a process, Monotype enables practitioners the ability to create rapid, seductive imagery and provides an ideal method for testing new ideas.
This one day course provides you with a practical introduction to making monoprints as an expansive and exploratory medium. The aim of this workshop is for you to experience a method of producing exciting and ambitious original prints to a professional standard, through direct workshop experience. Practical demonstrations are used as the starting point for an intensive workshop experience. The workshop will explore monoprint with an etching press and will include the use of multi-layered opaque and transparent rollups, stencils for positive and negative impressions and direct positive and negative mark making. The workshop is open to both experienced practitioners and beginners.

Please note that short courses are not intended as stand-alone access courses.
Due to the short nature of this course, we do lots of the preparation for you and streamline the process so you get a finished print at the end of the day. This does mean that you will need more training before becoming self-sufficient in this process and are able to work in the studio without assistance.
To access the studio, you may need to attend another weekend course or have some 1-1 training or an induction before gaining access to Edinburgh Printmakers open access studio facilities. How much further training is required is based on each individuals previous printmaking experience.
