I work in Leith, an area in Edinburgh known for its rich mix of people, shops and activity. It is the dockland area of the city, and I spent a lot of my time when I was a student drawing the cranes, ships and industrial buildings in the docks. This year I decided to revisit Leith as a subject, as there has been a huge amount of change and regeneration. Despite this, there are still pockets of old shops and buildings which have not yet succumbed to the changes happening everywhere. I like the mix of old and new, scruffy and polished and the characters who inhabit the place.
