Melanix on Tour: The Trailing Spouse and her Dataset

Marilène Oliver is an artist who works with medical data to create artworks. Since 2005 Oliver has been working almost exclusively with an anonymised CT dataset called Melanix. The dataset is of a woman analogous to the artist; female, white, under forty. Oliver has embraced the dataset as an avatar and has created numerous 'realisations' of Melanix, so much so that Oliver now considers Melanix to be her artist's material rather than her subject. In 2008 Oliver started to follow her husband's career becoming a 'trailing spouse' relocating first to Rio de Janeiro and then to Luanda, Angola. In her presentation Oliver will talk about how living in different parts of the world with such contrasting levels of 'development' have impacted her work and her relationship with the medically digitised body.

Talk is free but places are limited therefore booking is essential. To book please call us on 0131 557 2479 or email
